An exciting opportunity has arisen within community services for full time community support worker post to cover maternity leave. Community Services plays a key role in delivering the council’s strategy to develop strong and resilient communities within Telford and Wrekin and to reduce the demand on council services.

The community support worker will be required to provide professional support, guidance and information to help develop new and creative ways of building the capacity of the local community to deliver projects that help to meet the needs of the community and Council’s priorities. This post holder will support and work with a wide range of residents and voluntary and community organisations, Elected Members, council officers and partners to develop strong and resilient communities. The post holder will also help to facilitate the council’s young people’s forum and provide support to the United Kingdom youth parliament representatives and their work across the borough.

You will need:

• An excellent understanding and experience of the process of community capacity building • An understanding of how communities can contribute to the council’s Early Help and Support and demand management priorities within Adult Social Care and Children’s services.
• A good working knowledge of governance arrangements within the voluntary community sector, including the ability to support the development of social enterprises.
• To be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals, groups and council officers and be able to build effective professional working relationships. We are also looking for individuals with excellent project management and development skills, and with the determination to make a difference – a pragmatic, ‘can do’ attitude that engages and connects people and groups to help build on community assets. If you have the ability to empower and mentor individuals and groups and support them to develop new ways of working, we would welcome your application.
