The Transport Strategy team at Buckinghamshire council is recruiting to 4 exciting new roles, focusing on our priorities to encourage people to travel more sustainably. We need to deliver and promote more electric vehicle infrastructure; make walking and cycling easier and safer; and design, fund and secure public support for high quality active travel and transport schemes. And you could help us get there!

About us

Transport Strategy is part of the Planning, Growth and Sustainability directorate. This directorate works with partners to help shape the future of Buckinghamshire. The Transport Strategy team works to understand future travel trends, develops our transport priorities for the future, and secures funding to ensure that essential transport infrastructure is delivered and promoted to influence travel behaviour. The team undertakes analysis using travel data, traffic modelling, and the results of local surveys to identify what we need to put in place now to allow us to innovate and adapt to future travel demands. It works with the local community, businesses, developers and partner organisations to help encourage behaviour change, particularly to more sustainable and active modes such as walking and cycling; and supporting the transition to electric vehicles.

We really want everyone to love what they do and feed their passion for transport and delivery. Personal and professional development as well as a work/life balance are important to us, with the Council offering flexible working arrangements. Although these posts are advertised as full-time positions, we are happy to consider applications from people seeking a part-time position.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a county with diverse urban and rural geographies, learn new and transferable skills, meet people from a range of backgrounds, and develop a professional career in Buckinghamshire.

About the roles

Transport Strategy Officer (Electric Vehicles)

This role will oversee delivery of the Council's Electric Vehicle Action Plan - a key part of the Council's agenda to achieve 'net zero' by 2050. You will lead the delivery of electric vehicle charge points: we have an ambitious plan to ensure that there 1,000 publicly available EV charge points in Buckinghamshire by 2027.

Transport Strategy Officer (Active Travel)

This role will seek to encourage modal shift towards walking and cycling, making active travel the first choice for shorter journeys or the first/last mile of wider multi-modal journeys (such as accessing onward rail links).

2 x Transport Strategy Officer (Scheme Development)

These roles will progress our priority transport schemes through from initial concept stage to early feasibility and then detailed design, including securing funding for delivery. You will manage the feasibility and scheme development of a range of infrastructure projects, securing land required and progressing through planning; and engaging with stakeholders to achieve local support.

Buckinghamshire is also affected by several National Strategic Infrastructure Projects which include High Speed 2, East West Rail, and Western Rail Link to Heathrow. We have just published our ambitious 5-year Electric Vehicle Action Plan, and this year we will also begin work on our new Local Transport Plan (linked to our new Local Plan) and a county-wide Local Cycling & Walking Infrastructure Plan.

These roles will support the delivery of our sustainable travel ambitions as set out in these policy documents and are a fantastic opportunity to make a real and long-lasting difference to how the people of Buckinghamshire travel now and in the future.

About you

We are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic and hard-working individuals with a passion for transport and tackling climate change. With partnership working and local and political support being the key to success, you should be enthusiastic and confident in engaging with and influencing partners and customers to ensure support and positive strategic outcomes.

If you do not meet all these requirements but feel you still have something to offer, we would still like to hear from you. We can provide the necessary training to get you up to speed!
