Please note the position is working full time (5 days per week which may include working weekends, both Saturdays and Sundays. Bank Holidays that fall within working patterns could be mandatory but paid as double time)
This position could be based at any of these three sites: Kibworth Recycling and Household Waste Site (RHWS), Loughborough RHWS and Waste Transfer Station (WTS) or Whetstone RHWS and WTS.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Waste Management Delivery Service, as such Leicestershire County Council is looking to recruit a Transfer Station Plant Operative to support in the operation of the Council’s Waste Transfer Stations (WTS).
You will be responsible for operating a variety of heavy plant and equipment that will include loading shovels, telehandlers, and forklift trucks for the efficient and effective transfer of waste from busy WTS, in strict accordance with safe systems of work. The role will also involve maximising the recovery of recyclables within waste and safely controlling deliveries from private traders and district councils. The role is based in a busy transfer station and involves working outdoors. It is expected that the successful candidates will have previous experience of operating loading shovels and telehandlers at waste or construction sites. However, training may be provided to suitable candidates that have no previous experience of operating this type of plant. Opportunities may also be available for training to become an HGV driver. The successful candidate will be health and safety conscious with a proactive, flexible, ‘can do’ attitude.Effective time-management andproblem-solving skills are key attributes.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Loading shovel ticket (training may be provided to suitable candidates that do not currently have a valid loading shovel ticket)
- A full, Clean & Valid UK Driving License and insurance for business use
- A knowledge of waste transfer station operations
