Develop your leadership potential as you support our team.

Working as part of Children’s Services will provide a challenging and rewarding career. We have high ambitions for the children and young people of Kensington and Chelsea.  We have formed a bi-borough Children’s Services team with colleagues from Westminster City Council. Our services, which include education, family services and safeguarding, have been rated Outstanding by Ofsted, and our drive to be the best does not stop there.  By working with us, you will have the opportunity to make a difference to young people in one of the countries most diverse cities.

The Role:

Joining the Unaccompanied Minors and Independence Support Team (UMIST), a team of nine social workers, two personal advisers, a clinician and housing and benefits workers, you will be supporting unaccompanied asylum seeking children (UASC) in local authority care and care leavers (both former UASC and those from the indigenous population).

You will manage a group of practitioners who provide a statutory service to looked after children and care leavers under the Children Act (1989), Children (Leaving Care) Act (2000) and the Children and Social Work Act (2017). The team is responsible for the local authority’s obligations to looked after children who are UASC.

As a Practice Manager you will support, supervise, and lead social workers and other practitioners to ensure that an effective, robust service is offered to ‘looked after’ UASC and Care Leavers from diverse backgrounds with a focus on good outcomes for all. You will supervise up to six practitioners, mostly social workers whilst having access to regular supervision, a strong leadership team and excellent resources. Along with the other managers in the team, you will manage the duty system.  You will have responsibility for leading on age assessments or our evolving programme of independent living skills.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

We are looking for someone with sensitivity and passion in this area of work, excellent decision-making and communication skills to support our strong leadership team. A qualified and registered social worker, you will have demonstrable supervisory experience and a track-record of working with looked after children and/or care leavers. You will lead by example, putting integrity, partnership and respect at the heart of all you do.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays.
