Drive a new approach to energy management across the council

In Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people and local businesses at the heart of decision-making, working in partnership with them to provide quality services that are responsive, effective and efficient. Following the pandemic and changes in the way people work, we are shaping a new asset strategy to maximise the cost effectiveness of our corporate estate.  At the same time, we’re addressing escalating utility prices and the council’s commitment to become a net zero organisation by 2030.

The Role:

As Energy Manager, you’ll help to drive this programme of change. Your focus will be on ensuring we get the most from our utilities budget, which currently stands of £5million. You will look after the strategic procurement, management and operation of utilities across the council – from housing and highways to schools and academies. Taking the lead in bringing the Council’s operational buildings portfolio to net zero, you’ll provide expert input and ensure we embed carbon reduction into all aspects of property services, from design and build through to maintenance and operation. This will involve engaging stakeholders across the council, as well as reviewing legislation and compliance issues, carrying out analysis and producing reports.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

We’re looking for someone who can actively develop and direct strategic change in our approach to energy. You’ll be a skilled project manager, with the ability to deliver government-funded energy savings, energy efficiency, energy generation and carbon reduction projects from inception to completion. You’re likely to have a background in corporate estates or the energy industry, combined with a thorough knowledge of the utilities market, including competitive procurement. Capable of analysing energy usage and complex data, you’ll be equipped to translate data into meaningful insights.  You’ll also have the communication and relationship-building skills to engage and motivate people at all levels.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays.
