Peterborough is a wonderful place to live and work, and an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the City Council as our Executive Director of Place and Economy. This is a brand-new role focused on improving the lives of the residents of the fourth fastest growing city in the UK, a place with prospects, potential and great economic development ambition.

As a core member of our Corporate Leadership Team, you’ll take collective and shared responsibility for the effective leadership and corporate management of the Council’s services, the delivery of improved outcomes and the achievement of value for money. With the knowledge and expertise to establish a clear, ambitious vision for Peterborough as a place of growth, regeneration and inward investment, you’ll also help to create and support resilient communities where our residents can thrive.

To achieve these goals, you’ll lead a high-quality team as you deliver a wide range of place-based and community services, support our sustainable growth initiatives, and develop and manage strategic relationships with a number of partners, stakeholders and developers. These include Government agencies, regional bodies, parish councils, community organisations, faith groups and non-profit sector agencies.

Your other responsibilities will be many and varied, and include providing clear, compelling and inspiration leadership to the Council, and championing innovation through your open-minded approach to new and radical ways to the delivery of services. You’ll also promote a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging your colleagues to be creative and share ideas.

To be a success in this role you’ll bring experience of working at a strategic level within a large and complex organisation, be capable of providing balanced strategic advice and guidance in a political setting and be committed to working with communities in shaping and delivering in their place.

Passionate about place development as a driver for improving employment, education, health and wellbeing outcomes for everyone, you’ll understand the current issues and challenges facing local government, as well as the statutory framework governing the sector. A strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion is essential, as is the ability to develop working relationships that command respect, trust and confidence.

We’re proud to serve the diverse communities of Peterborough and want our workforce to reflect this diversity which we believe is beneficial for our employees, the organisation and the communities we serve.
