The City of York Council are looking to appoint an experienced building surveyor to support the management of change to council buildings.

The role:

  • Working in an historic City with a varied portfolio of buildings
  • Preparation of Dilapidation Surveys, Maintenance Planning, and Schedules of Condition.
  • Develop and manage projects from inception to building completion
  • Liaising with building control and planning
  • Submission of planning and building regulation applications
  • Preparation of tender documents and Health and Safety information
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team in a modern open plan office environment

Essential Skill, Qualifications and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate a positive proactive approach to the role, and will be committed to delivering customer service excellence.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a similar or related role within the construction industry
  • Capable of running/managing their own projects and working within a team on larger projects

With:

  • Clear decision making in a timely manner based on facts and sound rationale
  • High level of interpersonal and people management skills and attributes
  • Highly literate and experienced with IT, in particular MS Office and ideally AutoCAD
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate at all levels of management and teams
  • Self-motivated with excellent planning and organisational ability

Must have experience in:

  • In a similar role
  • Interacting with clients and stakeholders at a senior level
  • Detailed understanding of building regulations, legislation and standards
  • Knowledge of H&S, listed buildings and party wall legislation within an estates built environment

Qualifications:

  • An accredited building academic qualification

As a new starter, your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team. Your working arrangements will vary according to your service and role, and the current Government guidance. For many roles, there will be more opportunities in the future for remote and hybrid working. However, this comes with the expectation that, as workplaces open up, there is likely to be an ongoing and occasional requirement to attend the workplace.
