Background

Right now, we are on the cusp of something truly special.

We are changing residents’ lives for the better, with the city’s diversity and dynamism enabling the whole of Birmingham to thrive.

But there are challenges ahead, and we need to address long-standing environmental issues and societal problems such as inequality.

We have bold ambitions for our city and our citizens, and there is no bigger, or more exciting, place to work right now; this role will be crucial in ensuring that Adults Social Care reflects the diverse city we serve.

The Role

Reporting to the Strategic Director for Adult Social Care, you’ll be responsible for a range of services including Social Work and OT Services, Community & Residential Services, Enablement Services, and major programmes including Equality, Diversity & Inclusion.

As a member of the directorate’s leadership team, you’ll support the DASS, the Chief Executive, Elected Members and colleagues in translating strategic vision and priorities into operational plans.

Initial objectives will include:

· Collaborating with partners to review operating models with NHS partners, community groups and other agencies to optimise care arrangements.

· Ensuring the continued development and excellence of adult social care in Birmingham.

· Horizon-scanning to seek out the latest thinking, ensuring that the council’s service provision is innovative and responsive.

Candidates

You’ll be tasked with delivering high-quality adult social care services that respond to the needs of residents and reflect the diverse city we serve: modern, inclusive, diverse and the best.

This role therefore calls for a solid track record in leading services and programmes with the demonstrable ability to leverage the opportunities that a large and diverse resident population presents – both in service provision and in the recruitment, retention and ongoing development of an effective workforce.

We are keen to appeal to a broad range of candidates from across diverse sectors, so you may be a highly-skilled social care professional who wants to utilise your knowledge and expertise, or you may have transferable skills and experience from the commercial sector.

What is important is that you are a strategic, agile thinker with the vision and creativity to enable us to operate effectively and ethically.
