Job Purpose
To work as part of a team to deliver a seasonally led best value, customer-focussed service throughout Leicestershire and occasionally, surrounding counties. You will work flexibly, efficiently and effectively to maintain environmental areas such as verges, hedges and footpaths in accordance with statutory requirements.
Activities included in this job description are: Grass Cutting, Hand Hedge Trimming, Verge Maintenance
Key Job Functions:
The role of the General Environmental Operative follows a work pattern dictated by the seasons, that is, to attend to the grass cutting programme during the warmer summer months, working longer hours, and to switch to hand hedge trimming, verge maintenance and other activities as directed for shorter hours during the winter.
All operatives will report to a designated depot, to be briefed and debriefed each day by their Supervisor on the requirements for the day ahead. This will give the opportunity to hand over vehicle defect reports, timesheets, requests for holiday or other time off, and allows the raising of any issues, or to offer suggestions on better ways of working that can contribute to savings targets and efficiency.
You take responsibility, at all times, for your own appearance on site, ensuring you adhere to the requirements for PPE which, if they differ from the norm, will be explained to you during the course of your briefing, and will observe, at all times, the safe working practices to ensure your own safety and that of your colleagues.
This role requires 46.25 hours working in the summer which is the peak season for grass cutting, and is balanced by 27.75 hours in the winter, paid as earned, not balanced evenly throughout the year.
