This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to lead the Council’s ITS and sustainable travel infrastructure team.

We seek a candidate with proven experience with intelligent transport systems and a commitment to develop infrastructure to enable and encourage sustainable travel. Someone who can effectively manage and motivate the team and help to maintain the current high standards.

You will be responsible for leading a team of three engineers/technicians to deliver an annual programme of infrastructure projects and manage the ongoing operation of our traffic signals and other ITS equipment. Your duties will include:

  • Line management of three staff;
  • Agreeing the annual Network Management Minor Works Programme with the Network Manager;
  • Overseeing the team’s contribution to the delivery of the Minor Works Programme;
  • Producing formal and technical reports;
  • Managing consultants, contractors and external service providers;
  • Extensive liaison with elected members and customers;
  • Working collaboratively with neighbouring authorities, with whom ITS contracts are shared;
  • Working collaboratively with members of other teams;
  • Assessing and responding to a wide variety of requests for service from stakeholders;
  • Financial record keeping;
  • Attending meetings including Parish and Town Council meetings which may occasionally occur in the evening.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent;
  • A professional qualification in Engineering or Management;
  • Experience in the procurement and delivery of civil engineering and/or ITS projects, including contract administration;
  • Experience of operating and maintaining Intelligent Transport Systems to manage the efficient movement of traffic;
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with an ability to relate to all customers, dealing with difficult and challenging circumstances;
  • Experience of leading people and the ability to motivate a team;
  • Experience of compiling funding bids
