The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016, requires that councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.

The criteria under special knowledge and experience on the job profile which is shown in this advert, outlines what level of fluency you will be expected to demonstrate.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide examples in your application.

We are looking to recruit to the above position to join our busy legal team.  The role involves legal work in relation to prosecutions undertaken by the Council and other public bodies, which include food safety, housing, environmental issues including planning law infringements, environmental health and private hire and hackney carriages infringements.  The work will also involve dealing with civil cases in the magistrates court, and other civil litigation.  The post holder will need to be highly organised, with the ability to work under pressure, to use a range of complex IT packages, and possess good communication skills.

This is a great opportunity to work in a thriving city with award winning parks, nature reserves, historic architecture, museums, galleries and first class leisure facilities.  Bradford Metropolitan District has it all.

The post holder will assist the other members of the Education, Employment and Litigation Team in the provision of high quality professional legal service to the Council and occasionally other public bodies.  The focus of the post will be on criminal litigation, involving prosecution work and some civil litigation.

The successful candidate will have:

  1. Demonstrable experience of criminal litigation work
  2. The Professional Diploma in Law Grade 3 (Chartered Institute of Legal Executives) or demonstrable experience at that level.

In addition experience of civil litigation would be an advantage.
