Durham is a large county with a proud past and an ambitious future. We are a diverse area facing many challenges across small rural communities, large towns and of course the cathedral city of Durham. But we are also a place that is continuously looking forwards, seeking new ways to deliver better services and achieve better outcomes, supported by a political and corporate leadership team that delivers. Our recent Ofsted inspection evidenced good services across all aspects of work and rated the impact of leaders as ‘outstanding’.

We are now seeking a Head of Children’s Social Care, within our children and young people’s service, to provide high quality practice leadership building on the success we have achieved so far. Our ambition is excellence and this an opportunity to shape our path towards that aim.

We are guided by our vision to ensure that all children and young people, enjoy the best start in life and are supported to achieve the best possible outcomes. We are looking for a system leader who will take a holistic approach to the wellbeing and safety of children and young people in Durham. You will be joining an ambitious team who have evidenced outstanding leadership, creative thinking, partnership working and sheer passion for what we do.

We are seeking someone who has the passion and energy to improve outcomes for our children and young people, who embraces change, does not accept complacency, and for whom innovation is a daily part of practice. You will have experience of leading relevant services and be grounded in good practice and continuous improvement. Full details are available on our microsite: or please contact Alex Hayes at GatenbySanderson on 0113 205 6109.
