Wakefield Council has large programme of both major and minor highway improvements including management, design, and construction of new roads. These include works under the “Active Travel”, “Transforming Cities”, Corridor improvement Programme and the effects of the Towns Fund, along with numerous smaller and maintenance schemes.

The post holder will be responsible for leading a team of technical staff to design and deliver a complex range of highway schemes. The schemes will provide solutions to highway problems, reduce congestion and disruption and improve road safety as well has open up the districts network to improve access, jobs to meet the districts jobs and growth agenda.

The post holder will also be required to provide technical support to other council teams and departments to assist in delivery of wider construction projects e.g. Flood mitigation, drainage and public realm.

The role also includes the promotion of road safety, development of sustainable transport links and modes of transport. And the effective and efficient delivery of capital schemes (internal and externally funded)

Wakefield is one of six councils working within a combined authority to deliver the West Yorkshire Integrated Transport Plan. As such we have a programme of major projects until at the late 2020s.

The post is a permanent full time role based at Wakefield One in Wakefield City Centre within the Traffic Engineering and Design Team.
