We have an opportunity for a highly motivated individual, with a passion for delivering exceptional customer service to join the library service as a casual customer service assistant. The post is within the team at HMP Wakefield Library, the prison service will conduct a full DBS check.


Libraries are responsible for providing a pleasurable library environment that enhances the customer experience and inspires them to return and promote the service to others.


The post includes some weekday evenings (no later than a 6.45pm finish). You will have:


  • a positive and flexible approach
  • excellent interpersonal skills
  • previous experience in a customer facing environment
  • a good standard of ICT proficiency, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software programmes and webbased packages
  • a calm approach when dealing with complex and stressful situations
  • assertiveness and diplomacy
  • an understanding of equal opportunities
  • the ability to engage and interact appropriately with other staff and prison orderlies.
  • understanding of the importance and role of books, reading and information skills for the prison community
  • the ability to encourage and motivate customers to participate in activities which enhance the customer experience
  • the responsibility of supervising prisoner orderlies
