Main purpose of Job:

  • the evaluation and processing of planning applications and related matters within an area team. giving advice and support to planning technicians and administrators. meeting performance standards and providing a high level of customer care.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Taking responsibility for processing planning proposals of moderate complexity and contentiousness, e.g. proposals for large residential extensions, small residential new build scheme, and schemes for commercial extensions or new build. This work would include coordinating consultations with internal council departments, negotiating amendments to applications, carrying out site inspections, and making written and verbal recommendations on delegated and committee cases to the Group Manager – Planning. Completing appeal statements in the case of appeals of moderate complexity and contentiousness, considered by written representations and informal hearings including assisting Senior Officers at Hearings and appeal site visits. Investigating matters concerning enforcement, drafting reports and making recommendations on breaches of planning control of a ‘moderate’ complexity and contentiousness. Support the development management service by handling enquiries by phone and letter and in person at the reception counter, to a wide range of customers including ward Councillors. Providing information and advice, in relation to planning proposals of moderate complexity and contentiousness. Assisting other planning officers when appropriate, including surveying, researching and analysing information, report preparation. Assisting in the improvement of the development control service through involvement in work undertaken on the Planning Service Plan and Service Reviews.
