The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea Council
Kensington and Chelsea, London (Greater)

Opening up new pathways to sustainable employment.

In Kensington and Chelsea, we have an ambitious Council Plan that sets out our priorities for the next four years, many of which are concerned with employment and skills. These have become even more urgent as the pandemic has driven down economic activity in the area and the cost of living is increasing. We are determined that Kensington and Chelsea will emerge stronger and better from its current challenges, with a skilled and motivated workforce and plenty of employment opportunities for local people. Our focus on community involvement and our ambitions for equality, diversity and inclusion will continue to inform all that we do.

This role is a unique partnership between the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) and Cadogan Estates.  Cadogan is a dynamic property manager, investor and developer with a portfolio that is home to some of London’s most iconic spaces, from the Saatchi Gallery to Harvey Nichols.  As a 300-year-old Estate in Chelsea, Cadogan aims to be the landlord of choice with stewardship at the heart of everything they do. Cadogan’s Sustainability Strategy and Vision for the Future “Chelsea 2030” sets ambitious targets, including a specific focus on and supporting the local economy in an inclusive way, through job provision and skills development. Cadogan supports 14,800 direct jobs across the Estate, which is 10% of Kensington and Chelsea’s workforce. As such, Cadogan is thrilled to be working alongside RBKC to support this new role, in an exciting new public-private venture to get more local people into work.

The Role:

Your goal is to create good quality, sustainable employment opportunities for local residents, including target groups such as marginalised communities, young people and the long-term unemployed. Employer engagement is key to meeting this challenge. You will ensure local businesses, organisations, and institutions are actively involved in the employment and skills agenda.

While being part of a very close-knit and supportive team, with a direct relationship with the Cadogan team and their occupiers, you will spend much of your time out and about, understanding the needs of individuals, communities and employers, and finding creative ways to bring them together. Often this will mean identifying transferable skills and opportunities to reskill and upskill.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

Focused on brokering relationships and responding to employers’ recruitment needs, you will need excellent influencing and negotiating skills with a positive attitude and interpersonal skills to match. Active listening and demonstrating empathy will be key to success. Practised at gathering market intelligence and anticipating future employment trends, you’ll have substantial experience of developing partnerships with employers and skills-providers to create opportunities for local people. You will bring a good knowledge of the London labour market along with a creative approach to tackling current and future challenges in the employment sector. You will understand barriers to employment and how to promote good employment practices. Some flexible working in evenings and at weekends will be required.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays.

Please apply online explaining how you meet the requirements set out in the person specification and job description. CV’s alone will not be considered for this role.
