Are you looking to develop your financial skills while working for two leading London councils?

If you answered yes, then we have the perfect role for you.

The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and London Borough of Wandsworth present a unique opportunity to be part of a team who are working together within a shared staffing structure across both boroughs.

The Financial Control Officer role forms part of the Financial Management Division within the Resources Directorate, at the strategic heart of the two authorities, and comes with potential for career development as we continue to build on our solid reputation for effective financial management.

As the Financial Control Officer you’ll assist the Financial Controller in providing high quality financial advice and be responsible for carrying out routine financial control functions and providing financial support to the Housing & Regeneration department.

Experience and knowledge of Local Authority Housing would be a benefit but is not essential as we are committed to developing and training our staff.

You will need to have a good understanding of basic accounting principles and structures, particularly of arrangements for budgeting, accounting, and reporting the cost of service activity.  In return, you will benefit from our firm commitment to staff development.

You will be AAT qualified or equivalent or have substantial relevant experience.

Successful candidates will be able to manage their own workloads to meet deadlines, producing high quality work that maintains the reputation of the team.

Flexible working is available, and we have been operating largely as a distributed team over the recent time, however some office working is expected in line with service needs.

At Richmond and Wandsworth Councils, we care more about how you work and what you achieve, rather than where you work on any given day. The difference you can make to our local communities is what really matters most to us, service delivery must always come first. We have carefully considered agile ways of working to provide the best experience for residents, stakeholders, and our staff. Our agile working strategy actively supports and encourages a dynamic work environment and daily working experience. Agile working helps put the needs of our staff at the centre of everything we do, so if specific flexible working arrangements helps you with this, feel free to let us know.

Your wellbeing and the flexible way in which you can work is and will remain a key priority for Richmond and Wandsworth Councils. We want you to thrive and feel empowered in your work!

We recognise the importance of a good balance between work and home life so we do everything we can to accommodate flexible working including, working from home, compressed hours and other arrangements. Please just let us know in your application or at any stage throughout the process (and beyond) if these are options you would like to explore. We also offer a generous holiday allowance of 39 paid days (pro rata) including bank holidays and a wide range of learning and development opportunities.

In addition, we offer a comprehensive range of staff benefits such as membership of the Local Government pension scheme, childcare vouchers, modern technology scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts with many leisure activities, restaurants, shops and other establishments.
