Job Details

The City of York Council's corporate Business Support Service is offering an exciting opportunity to join the team.

The City of York Council’s Business Support Service is offering an exciting opportunity to join our team which provides high quality administrative support to various teams within children’s social care, working closely with social workers, service managers and partner agencies.

The role offers an opportunity to join our Health & Disability team and will provide a great opportunity to develop your administrative skills and knowledge whilst learning about local government and the services the Council provides to the public within children’s social care.

Successful candidates will provide high quality administrative support, working closely with social workers, service managers and partner agencies.

Key skills required for the role:

  • Ability to arrange and minute meetings.
  • Effective, tactful and diplomatic interpersonal skills.
  • High degree of computer literacy and experience working with information technology.
  • Ability to work effectively and flexibly as part of a team and using their own initiative to respond to changing priorities and conflicting demands.
  • Strong organisational skills, including good time and task management.
  • Ability to work within a multi-agency environment.
  • Ability to adapt working practices, suggest service improvements and be responsive to change.
  • Ability to interrogate the case management database to obtain required information.

Please note that the role will involve dealing with highly confidential and sensitive information about vulnerable service users and due to the nature of the services this role support this will include child protection and safeguarding information, therefore we recommend candidates consider this prior to applying.

The duties of this post require the postholder to undertake a basic Criminal Record check (unspent convictions only) via the Disclosure and Barring Service.

At the moment due to the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, some of our staff are working remotely from home but a return to a combination of working remotely and physically from the Council’s offices is anticipated in the near future.

As a new starter, your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team. Your working arrangements will vary according to your service and role, and the current Government guidance. For many roles, there will be more opportunities in the future for remote and hybrid working. However, this comes with the expectation that, as workplaces open up, there is likely to be an ongoing and occasional requirement to attend the workplace.

The Council is committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development. In addition we also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.
