We are looking for a responsible and experienced person to join our team as a Health, Safety, and Environment Officer at the Port of Workington. We are looking for someone to provide professional Health, Safety and Environment advice for all the Port's activities and who can contribute to the efficient delivery, control & monitoring of all the Port's functions.

The Port of Workington is based on the west coast of Cumbria; established in 1975, it has grown to be a strategic hub serving North England and Scotland. We handle a wide range of cargoes, which include dry bulk, liquid bulk, forest products, renewable energy, nuclear energy, project and unitised sectors. 

The successful applicant will be joining an established and hard-working team.

The Role

As a Port Health, Safety and Environment Officer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and administration of all Health & Safety; this includes completing Risk Assessments, establishing Safe Working Procedures and the implementation of all aspects of safety legislation, and environmental management.

You will need to ensure all safety procedures are in place to comply with legislation and regulations, promoting the health, safety and welfare of all employees and the local environment. We are also looking for a driven and passionate individual, who can work in collaboration with the Port Manager in determining policy and strategy for all safety and environmental activities, reviewing, and developing procedures.

Who we are looking for:

The right person will have experience in a health and safety advisory role, with a strong understanding of Health, Safety & environment legislation, procedures, and policies and how they apply in the work area.

We are looking for someone with the ability to develop practical and innovative solutions to health and safety issues, as well as recognise local and organisational objectives. Effective written and verbal skills are essential, as are strong interpersonal skills, including negotiating, motivating, and encouraging engagement from the wider team.
