Arun District Council is situated on the South Coast boasting some of the most picturesque locations in West Sussex.  We have recently adopted a new Vision for the Council which recognises the need to protect our impressive natural environment by considering climate change and sustainability in everything we do, as well as improving the wellbeing of our communities, continuing to make Arun a desirable place to live and work.

Having recently been successful in a bid for the Levelling Up Fund, our ambition is to put our two main coastal towns back on the map, investing to ensure that our district is first choice for tourism and business.

With a genuine desire to fulfil Arun’s economic potential and to ensure our aspirations become a reality, Arun is looking to recruit a Group Head of Finance who can work creatively and collaboratively as part of the senior management team to deliver change and improvement across the Council.

In addition to the duties and responsibilities associated with the role of the S151 Officer you will advise the Corporate Management Team and Members on finance matters (this will include attendance at full Council) and lead on special projects, as well as focusing on the most effective utilisation of the Council’s assets and resources.

This is a broad role offering significant career development opportunity, having management responsibility for a portfolio of services including our Customer Services department, you will play a key role in developing a culture that is customer led.

For this important role we are looking for a stand-out candidate. Not just someone with experience of Local Government finance (existing Section 151 or a deputy), and tangible experience of working effectively with Members, but someone with a real ambition to make things better - to look at systems and ways of working and thinking “how can I change this to benefit residents?”  We will also need so see how you have developed and motivated staff, helping to build an open and supportive culture showing staff they are truly valued as a key asset.

If you think this is you, please contact our advisors HAYS to find out more.
