Lancashire County Council is the fourth largest local authority in England encompassing 12 District Councils.  Acting as both the Local Highway and Traffic Authority the County Council through its Highways Service is responsible for maintaining the safe and effective use of its highways. As part of that role the Highway Service is consulted on over 6000 planning applications annually. Each has a potential to impact on the highway network and its users.

The Role

The Strategic Development Control team evaluates the highway implications created by major development and provides timely professional advice to Local Planning Authorities on what impacts may be realised on the greater highway network and how they can be mitigated and managed. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join that busy and thriving team.

We are looking for a highly motivated person who has relevant skills to assist in delivering the County Council's strategic highway development control function and managing a small team of technical professionals that provide travel plan support and facilitate Section 106 related infrastructure works.

Ideally you will be an individual with experience of working in the field of transportation, highway safety, planning or similar environment.

The post holder will use their knowledge and skills to provide professional highway advice and guidance to local planning authorities, developers and other stakeholders on the highway and transport implications of development, identifying highway issues and potential solutions.

You will be working within a well-established, organised team where you will be supported and allowed to build on your existing knowledge and skills and actively encouraged to realise your full potential.

The role will involve attending meetings and undertaking site visits. Consequently, the successful applicant will be required to hold a valid driving licence and will be expected to have a motor vehicle available for use on official journeys.
