Job Details

Are you a newly qualified or experienced Health Visitor passionate about giving children and young people the best possible start in life?

York is a great place to live and work and is well above the national average in health, wellbeing and happiness. However, we know that isn’t the case for everybody and that is where our developing 0-19 Healthy Child Service comes in.

The City of York Council want to make a real difference, and are passionate about putting the health back into Health Visiting and school nursing.  Rated Good by CQC, working as a Health Visitor in York offers a great opportunity to be pro-active in the delivery of the Healthy Child programme whilst providing a high quality service to clients.

As part of the Healthy Child Service team you will be working alongside early help services, housing, adult services, the police, the voluntary and community sectors, the wider health economy and of course families and communities themselves. The role is working across the city in various office bases and also home working arrangements are available.

Not only do we offer excellent support, training and development opportunities but also corporate membership with the Institute of Health Visiting, a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings, Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution.

If you are an innovative and forward looking Health Visitor with a passion for delivering good outcomes and are ready to make a real difference please click apply, we would love to receive your application.

We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development.

At the moment due to the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, some of our staff are working remotely from home but a return to a combination of working remotely and physically from the Council’s offices is anticipated in the near future.

As a new starter, your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team. Your working arrangements will vary according to your service and role, and the current Government guidance. For many roles, there will be more opportunities in the future for remote and hybrid working. However, this comes with the expectation that, as workplaces open up, there is likely to be an ongoing and occasional requirement to attend the workplace.

City of York Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. We require the successful candidate to undertake an enhanced Criminal Record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
