Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is committed to ensuring that our borough continues to be a great place to live, providing opportunities for everyone that lives and works here.

The Councils procurement service helps support the Council in delivering our key priorities (strengthening communities, protecting and enhancing our environment, improving safety and planning for the future) by ensuring that we can deliver high quality, value for money in our contracted services and purchased goods.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our procurement service as a Senior Procurement and Contracts Officer. This is an important role helping to deliver quality and cost-effective procurement support services on strategic and high risk / high value procurements. Reporting to the Procurement and Contracts Manager you will provide procurement support and advice collaboratively across the Council and at all stages of the procurement cycle. You will also support the implementation of a new Procurement Strategy, as well as helping the procurement team develop policies and practices in areas such as social value, local suppliers and supporting the Councils Climate Emergency declaration.

We aim to drive efficiencies and value for money through all procurement activity in a fair and transparent way, complying with relevant UK procurement legislation and best practice. It is therefore essential that the post holder has experience of the tendering process within public sector procurement and knowledge of current public procurement legislation.

The postholder should have the ability to prioritise and organise a busy workload as the procurement team works across all council services. The successful candidate must also be an effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills and a ‘can-do’ attitude to ‘Go Beyond’ in delivering excellent service. Working well as part of a team is essential as the successful candidate is a representative of the procurement service and works across all teams, but should also actively contribute to the wider goals of the Law and Governance business unit.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all sections of our community.
