Professional Range Youth Worker

The Targeted Youth Support team part of Lancashire County Council's, Children and Family Wellbeing Service is looking to recruit 3 (JNC qualified) Professional Range Youth Workers, to work in the North of Lancashire, who are enthusiastic, organised and passionate about making a difference and changing young people’s lives.

The Service is a key contributor to the prevention and early intervention/early help agenda for Lancashire County Council. The Service delivers targeted prevention and early intervention work to ensure that young people get the help they need early and to reduce the necessity for higher cost specialist intervention.  It enables young people to succeed by providing high quality informal education opportunities to promote their personal and social development.  It supports young people who are challenged in education, their communities or home life to ensure a successful transition to adulthood.

The Youth Worker's role is to contribute to the delivery of youth work opportunities in a variety of settings, including youth clubs and in collaboration with schools and other agencies. Youth Workers will report to a Team Leader and will work closely with other youth work staff and volunteers to maximise opportunities for young people to access social and personal development as well as learning opportunities.

The main purpose of the role is to initiate and develop relationships with 12 to 19 year olds and up to 25 year olds for young people with vulnerabilities. Working directly with targeted young people to enable them to broaden their horizons and involvement in positive activities. By designing and developing youth work responses underpinned by the 4 cornerstones of youth work, equality, participation, education and empowerment and delivery of the Youth Offer.

The focus of your work will be with vulnerable and at-risk groups to deliver preventative programmes, evidencing learning outcomes and delivering to targets. You will deliver projects and establish new initiatives which develop, with young people, stimulating and challenging youth work programmes.  You will work in group settings and deliver one-to-one to identified individuals.

You will have the ability to quickly establish positive relationships with diverse groups of young people and partners, to respond flexibly to their needs and to the priorities of the Service. Good IT, organisation and communication skills are essential as you will need to record data on a management information system, meet targets, produce reports and correspond with young people, parents and partners.

You will deliver face to face work in accordance with JNC terms and conditions including residentials.  You will be required to travel across the districts and at times across county so access to a vehicle is essential.

You will have a nationally recognised JNC qualification for Youth and Community Workers and evidence of continued professional development or the ability to study at post graduate level and the willingness to complete a JNC qualification in your own time.  Course fees will be paid for by the Council as part of an apprenticeship route.

The apprenticeship provides on the job experience, support from Professional Range Youth Workers, Team Leader, alongside a programme of training relating to the role and to achieve the appropriate skills, competencies and qualifications of the role by the end of the training programme.
