Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority (MRWA, the Authority) is a statutory waste disposal authority. We act as a strategic waste and resource management organisation responsible for the recycling, treatment and disposal of municipal waste across the Liverpool City Region, which comprises 6 local authority areas. The Authority increasingly works with partner authorities and other stakeholders towards a climate action ambition of Zero Waste 2040, looking at all waste types in all settings.

Working with our private sector contractors, we manage waste resources, recycling, the transportation and disposal of waste on behalf of our member councils. The Authority plays an essential role across the City Region in delivering our vision, “To improve people’s quality of life by ensuring that waste is sustainably managed to bring about the best combination of environmental, economic and social benefits.”

Following the pending retirement of our current Chief Executive we are now looking for a successful and driven individual who can use their experience and leadership to drive the organisation forward in achieving our key ambitions as part of our Zero Waste 2040 Strategy and Climate Action Plan and in helping to lead wider waste partnerships and projects.

You will bring a thorough understanding of waste and recycling management and have an appetite for developing new delivery models and technological advances, and an interest in working with our communities, partner authorities and other stakeholders to achieve our goals. In return, this is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in shaping the landscape of waste and recycling management across the Liverpool City Region for generations to come.
