Northumberland County Council declared a Climate Emergency in 2019. Since then, we have been really busy identifying and delivering projects that attract investment to the county, create new jobs for the green economy and reduce our carbon footprint. 

We have set out details of the projects we need to deliver and a route to achieving net zero by 2030 in our most recent Climate Change Action Plan. ( 

We are looking for an experienced and committed individual to join the Climate Change leadership team who will lead on the delivery of a complex programme of work, helping to reduce carbon emissions across Northumberland. 

Overseeing projects ranging from innovative low-carbon technology such as mine-water heating through to retrofitting the homes of our most vulnerable residents, the postholder will have an opportunity to make a difference to global climate change whilst supporting local people and communities. 

You will have a background delivering projects from concept to close. Ideally you will have a good knowledge of renewable technologies and green infrastructure. Experience of managing projects in the public sector would be advantageous but not essential.  

You will be supported by a team of Assistant Project Managers each dedicated to the workstreams in our Climate Change Action Plan. 

This role is part of a fresh and dynamic Climate Change Team who care deeply about the part we have to play as an organisation and as a county in reducing global warming. Innovation is encouraged, new ideas are welcome.
