The Fostering service has been through a period of transformation alongside other areas of Children's Services.  This has seen significant investment into the Fostering Service which is enabling the service to recruit a number of social workers.

The social worker may support at different times each of the three service areas which are as follows:

Fostering Recruitment and Assessment Team:  This team is responsible for the recruitment and assessment of mainstream foster carers to meet the needs of our children looked after in Lancashire.  Social workers within this team are responsible for the recruitment, training, preparation and assessment of prospective foster carers.

Assessment with Family and Friends Team:  This team is responsible for the assessment of family and friends as connected carers.  Social workers are responsible for undertaking dual fostering and special guardianship assessments.  They are responsible for the training and preparation of such carers to meet the specific needs of the children whom they are being assessed to care for.  Social workers are responsible for undertaking regulation 24 temporary approval assessments and supporting and supervising regulation 24 carers.  Social workers may be required to attend Court as part of their role in considering suitability of alternative carers where care proceedings are ongoing.

Support to Permanence Teams:  These teams are responsible for the support and supervision of all approved foster carers, that is both mainstream and family and friends foster carers.  These social workers are responsible for undertaking regular support and supervision visits to foster carers, to facilitate support groups and training, to support the variety of fostering initiatives that supports the retention of foster carers.

In Lancashire our new recruits attend our established Social Work Academy, this is an extensive induction programme followed by regular recall days and training for ASYE's to support increased knowledge and confidence in practice.
