Give our residents a better future.

At The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea we believe that every member of our community deserves the best chance in life.

Many of our residents are thriving, but the pandemic has presented countless families and individuals with additional financial and employment challenges, and it is here that you could find a valuable career path.

This is an exceptional chance to become a member of a supportive team who are focused on creating results for our most vulnerable residents.

Join us in this work, and you will have the opportunity to pursue your boldest ideas, with the full support of a collaborative team who go the extra mile for every service user.

The Role:

As a member of the Housing and Employment team, you will help us address the factors that stop unemployed residents from seeking, securing and maintaining employment.

Working with everyone from those who have lost their jobs during the pandemic and are currently in social housing, through to unemployed individuals who are in temporary accommodation, you will deliver a personalised one-on-one support service for people aged from 25 up to retirement.

While some of your clients will proactively seek out your support, you will also reach out to those who could benefit from the service, as many will need additional encouragement.

Regardless of their background, you will bring plenty of empathy to the role as you understand what each client could possibly achieve and the support they need to pursue a sustainable career.

This will include understanding their goals, identifying training needs, building their confidence, and working with them to develop transferable skills and experience.

You would also play a vital role in supporting their transition from benefits into work, so every day will present you with new challenges ranging from supporting your clients in searching for jobs through helping them write CVs and application letters, and preparing them for potential interview questions.

About You:

As you will be identifying partnership opportunities to work with other agencies and professionals, there is great scope to make a tangible impact from your very first day.

You will therefore excel with us if you are a dynamic individual who is passionate about helping people find a better quality of life.

As such, you will have experience of supporting people into work, with a good awareness of the welfare benefits provision and income maximisation, plus the capacity to assess skills and barriers to securing or progressing in employment.

As a team player who can work well with multidisciplinary colleagues and partner agencies, you will have a good understanding of the local labour markets, and you will be capable of maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of local employers’ recruitment needs.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, and you will be able to maintain accurate databases and case files.

Many of our service users lack confidence in their capabilities, so you will be compassionate, resilient, and patient, with the ability to both motivate people and manage their expectations.
