Green Skills Coordinator, Green Skills Academy

  • Would you like to help build the pipeline demand for green skills across the South London Partnership?
  • Do you have experience of brokering strong relationships with employers, training providers and various partners across Construction and the green sector
  • Do you have experience of working with skills and training providers to develop training opportunities?

Then this might be the job for you!

The South London Partnership boroughs of Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Richmond and Sutton and neighbouring borough Wandsworth have joined together to develop the South London and Partners Green Skills Hub.  The Hub will support people and businesses connect to green skills training and jobs across south London.

The Green Skills Hub focuses on supporting Green Construction, Green Spaces, Waste Reduction and Recycling.

The UK has a legally binding target of greenhouse gas emissions reaching net zero by 2050. To achieve this, we need to ensure that people and businesses have the skills necessary to take the jobs using new technologies and methods of working.  According to a report commissioned by the SLP, green jobs will grow by 7% year on year to 2030. This clearly is an opportunity to strengthen, diversify the workforce, as people from other sectors and underrepresented groups discover their futures in the green economy.

Skills training is often demand led and therefore a time lag in supply, creating skills shortages which could easily cause delay to decarbonisation aspirations.

The postholder will:

  • build a network of employers finding new jobs, apprenticeship, and work experience opportunities for south Londoners.
  • work with employers to encourage them to diversify their workforce and join the Workforce Integration Network
  • use the recently commissioned Green Skills and Jobs report to identify new training opportunities to support green jobs, for now and in the future.
  • work closely with training providers to ensure that their curriculum reflects the demand of new and emerging jobs and, that sustainability principles are adopted through all skills training
  • work with the Mayors Construction Academy Team to engage and build a pipeline of trained green construction workers, with a specific focus on increasing the diversity of people entering green jobs.
  • bring together employers and training provider to develop a strategy to ensure south Londoners are equipped with the skills to benefit from the growth of green jobs

We can offer you working arrangements that will enhance your work-life balance.  These include compressed hours, home working (dependent on service need), annualised hours, and a generous holiday allowance of 31 days plus bank holidays.

In addition, we offer a range of staff benefits such as membership of the Local Government contributory pension scheme, childcare vouchers, new technology scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts at many leisure activities, restaurants, shops and other establishments. A wide range of developmental opportunities is also offered.
