We keep People & Places Safe from Harm

The Royal Borough of Greenwich are looking for dedicated, enthusiastic, and compassionate individuals for several roles within the Safer Spaces service, part of the Council’s Community Safety & Environmental Health Division. Our mission is very much about keeping people and places safe, whilst striving to be the ‘best or better’ in the services we deliver each and every day.

Following introduction and expansion of the service since 2020, Safer Spaces has developed into a highly regarded team of committed professionals, delivering trauma informed enforcement and problem solving across the borough, as well as public space surveillance through one of the largest CCTV systems operating in London. Originally operating in town centres primarily, the success of the Safer Spaces service has seen the unit expand rapidly in terms of coverage, including most recently our estates, but also in support of a growing night-time economy. The future for the service is both strong and committed, with opportunities aplenty for staff to progress and grow in experience.  Being at the heart of the Council’s ‘Integrated Enforcement’ model, Safer Spaces officers work across enforcement teams and partners, including with our own dedicated and other local policing teams. Every officer in the Safer Space service has a key role to play, taking individual ownership of individual community enforcement issues as well as providing highly visible patrols, problem solving, and community engagement at other times. The work is challenging, will test your abilities no doubt, but equally will provide you with diversity of role but also a real sense of achievement at the end of a busy week.

As a people focused service, we care passionately about giving you the tools you need to succeed. The service invests significantly in staff training, both initial and ongoing, as well as providing the best we can in terms of uniform and personal protective equipment. We are also proud that many officers who join the service progress into more senior roles within the unit in time, or transition into more specialist roles elsewhere within the Council or further afield.

The Enforcement Support Officer is a key role within the Safer Spaces service, supporting the Head of Service and the Operations Manager with a broad range of administrative and project tasks. A working knowledge of relevant environmental and anti-social behaviour legislation, as well as the ability to support the Legal team, are essential criteria and applicants would be expected to have exceptional communication skills in all modes. This is a friendly, proactive and fast-paced service so the ability to organise workloads and operate with minimal supervision is critical.
