The Role

The role of a support worker is to support people in their own home who are at risk of needing social care or an increased intensity of care to regain functioning, maintain life skills, rebuild their confidence, and promote wellbeing. The role also provides a steppingstone to independence, by supporting people to regain lost skills, learn new skills, and adapt to the challenges that living independently can present.

You will work with a Council “Good “rated - Home Support Reablement Team, and will have an opportunity to work with other professionals such as our colleagues in the NHS, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists etc to provide all aspects of care, which includes but not exhaustive of:

  •         Moving and Handling
  •         Personal Care
  •   Administering medication
  •         Ensuring service users dignity and wishes are at the centre of the care provided.

About You

We seek candidates who are patient, understanding and who are be passionate about ensuring:

  • The reablement service is delivered to the highest professional standards, to support vulnerable adults in their own homes.
  • The rehabilitation needs of the service user are supported to enable independent living.
  • Independence and positive outcomes are promoted by helping service users regain the ability to perform their usual activities such as, cooking meals, washing, dressing, and managing their own medication.

About Us

The service operates from 7:15 am until 10:00 pm, 365 days a year, therefore the post holder will be required to work flexibly 5 days from 7, including evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays on a rota basis. A link to view the rota is located at the bottom of this advert.

There are some important differences between Reablement and conventional home care services. Initially Reablement support workers may visit more frequently throughout the day and stay for longer periods. Instead of doing things ‘for’ the person, such as assisting in getting up and dressed, Reablement support workers will work ‘with’ the person to do things for themselves. This means that the support workers are more likely to give encouragement or show the person a new or better way of doing something in order to encourage independence. This type of support takes longer than conventional home care, which is reflected in the length of time allocated for our Reablement service. By the end of the period of Reablement, the aim is that the length of the visits should have been reduced or no longer be required.
