An opportunity has arisen for a candidate studying for AAT to join the Business, Education & Care Finance Team. The Trainee Finance Officer post is an opportunity for a forward thinking candidate to gain valuable financial experience alongside completing their AAT qualification. The postholder will have gained Level 3 AAT and be actively studying for Level 4 or equivalent qualification. They will support Senior Accountants and other Finance staff in providing timely and accurate information to the Health & Wellbeing and Adult Social Care service areas, and support in providing regular information on Adult Social Care performance. The right candidate will deliver a professional service, be a good communicator in order to provide good advice and be diligent in providing good quality information.
The role has the potential to increase to Scale 5 on completion of the AAT and gaining full membership and taking on duties commensurate with a full Finance Officer role.
We are an award winning Local Authority in the County of Shropshire. Our Finance Team is looking for an enthusiastic and forward thinking person to join our team supporting Care services. We provide a quality finance service to Directors of Adult Social Care and Health & Wellbeing services which handle a significant part of the Council's expenditure and are services facing significant change. Our Senior staff require robust support in preparing and delivering financial information, evaluation and advice, a role we are now looking to recruit.
Provides financial monitoring and information to budget holders to aid their decision making and management of resources;
Assists the Production of budgets as directed by the Senior accountant to support Budget Holders as part of the budget setting process[
Assists in the completion of grant claims and returns which impact the Council’s cash-flow and funding Responsible for making best use of technology with guidance from more Senior staff;
Accurately accounting for financial transactions The post;
The post holder is required to deal with confidential commercial/personal information.
The successful candidate will :
- have achieved AAT Level 3 and be undertaking AAT level 4 with student membership;
- be active in compliance with CPD requirements of professional body;
- have awareness of the financial framework for local authorities;
- have a working knowledge and understanding of accounting regulations and standards appropriate to the role;
- have the ability to analyse and interpret routine financial information for a budget area with supervision as necessary;
- be expected to determine how a requested task is carried out including the best use of appropriate software e.g. Excel etc. and the most effective techniques for delivering the end product; with direction from more Senior staff;
- have experience of working to and consistently meeting deadlines;
The successful candidate will:
- have good ICT skills(including Microsoft Excel) including a good understanding of all systems available and effective use of these;
- have good interpersonal skills providing effective customer support;
- have good communication skills-oral and written;
- have the ability to analyse and interpret routine financial information for a budget area with supervision as necessary;
- be able to Understand the concept of Value for Money;
- have the ability to undertake costings and assessment of financial implications arising with supervision as necessary;
- with direction from Accountants; be expected to make decisions with regards to the way tasks allocated are carried out supported by more Senior staff where necessary;
- be supported in and expected to demonstrate the Councils Core Behaviours;
- be organised and self-motivated Flexible and customer focussed;
- have a strong willingness to abide by ethical guidelines and adhere to regulation;
- embraces diversity and equality of opportunity;
- abides by the Health and Safety Policy;
- be responsive and reliable and proactive;
- have a proven ability to maintain confidences relating to sensitive information;
- be an effective Team Member (both within their own team and the Council as a whole) to reach common goals.
