Full Time (35 hours), to be worked flexibly including regular evenings and weekends. Initially fixed term to cover an extended maternity leave until December 2023

£22,074- £26,909 per annum (Depending on Experience)- plus contributory pension, health cash plan scheme, enhanced annual leave

Hybrid working - Across BLGC sites, community venues and outside space & home working

About the role

BLGC have an exciting and new role, at the heart of an agile organisation with a strong record and reputation, with the potential for real and profound change for children and young people.

The role holder will deliver an efficient and effective 1:1 mentoring service for children and young people who need help with building self-esteem, self-confidence and resilience. They will be responsible for the management of a cohort of children/young people and their volunteer.  They will match children and young people aged 8 years plus with trained volunteers and supervise the relationship. They will be responsible for training, supporting, advising and guiding volunteers, imparting information and drawing on their skills to maximise support for their allocated young person. 

About you

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to engage and negotiate with children and young people who have a broad range of needs. You will attend a variety of professional meetings to understand how best to support the young person and volunteer in building their self-esteem, self-confidence and resilience and raise aspirations, so must be confident in dealing with multiple stakeholders.

Meeting targets as outlined by funders, contracts and the Services Manager is a significant element of this role to ensure the quality of support children/young people and their volunteers receive to achieve positive outcomes.

Meeting the needs of our young people is our priority, and that doesn’t always fit into ‘9-5’ business. Flexibility is a given. You will also be expected to travel to different venues/locations.

You must hold a degree/qualification in Youth & community Work; Child Development; Social Sciences; or Social Work with at least 3 years direct experience with children and young people.
