Permanent, 37 hours per week

Based in Tewkesbury with hybrid working as standard

Tewkesbury Borough, situated in north Gloucestershire, is experiencing significant growth. Alongside being identified as having the strongest economy in the UK last year, it is also home to two garden community programmes and has a very impressive strategic location.

We have ambitious plans to support this growth, and we are committed to place-making - creating sustainable, well-designed and vibrant communities where people can live, work and raise families.

All this means Tewkesbury Borough is a really exciting place to be, and we invite you to come and lead our development management and planning policy teams as we achieve our ambitions and deliver our transformation agenda.

Reporting to the head of development services, the chief planner will lead for Tewkesbury Borough on our cross-county partnership work on the Joint Strategic Plan. Working with Gloucester City Council and Cheltenham Borough Council, this role will shape the strategic direction for planning decisions with our partners.

As a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute you will be our internal expert, advising our senior team and members on all aspects of planning. You will also use your management experience to ensure a quality and continuously improving service is delivered.

Alongside the professional opportunities, we have an impressive portfolio of benefits to offer you:

  • The option to choose to blend office and home working as a standard.
  • A flexi-time scheme that means you can do the things that matter to you and accrue up to an extra day off each month.
  • Great technology to support working in flexible locations.
  • A fleet of pool cars so you don’t need to use your own car for work.
  • Access to the coveted Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • Professional membership paid each year.
  • Financial support to relocate to our area if you want to.
  • Leave entitlement starting at 25 days plus bank holidays, rising to 31 days with service.
  • Opportunities to undertake training and professional apprenticeships.
  • Opt-in benefits, such as salary sacrifice cars, bikes and reduced gym membership
  • Free on-site parking for all staff

We’re open to part-time working, so if our hours don’t suit you, feel free to discuss alternatives with us. Please phone Sandra Ford on 01684 272173 for an informal discussion and apply on our careers website where you can also find out more about our council. Come and join our friendly team!

Closing Date: Sunday 11th September 2022

Proposed Interview Date: Friday 30th September 2022
