Director of Safeguarding and Support

Swindon Borough Council
Swindon, Wiltshire
£95,171 (spot salary)
Closing date
14 Jan 2024

Improving outcomes for our children and young people in Swindon is the Council’s number one priority. We’re on a big improvement journey but have a clear vision and transformation plan in place to transform services and improve lives. The right leadership will be vital to our success, and we’ve made good progress on creating a strong, permanent senior management team. This brand-new role provides us with additional capacity to deliver on our ambitions.

Reporting to Lisa Arthey, Corporate Director Children’s Services, you’ll lead across a broad portfolio, including early intervention, youth and community, front door services, and family safeguarding. A qualified social worker, you’ll be responsible for developing social work practice, driving forward our recruitment and retention strategy, and continuing to strengthen our partnerships to ensure a whole system approach.

You’ll have the ability to empower staff and will play a significant role in maintaining the momentum of positive change we’ve created. You’ll bring a strong track record of delivering and sustaining the highest quality safeguarding, protection, care and provision for vulnerable children. The role requires a standout candidate with strong experience and expertise in actively listening to the voice of children, young people and their families, and putting this at the heart of service priorities and delivery.

There are exciting opportunities to act up and work outside of your direct sphere of influence and Swindon is a place where you can achieve things quickly and make a real difference. Following the Ofsted outcome, we have a clear mandate to deliver through our transformation and improvement plans. If you’re an inspirational leader who is passionate about making a real difference to the lives of children, young people, and their families then we’d love to hear from you.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact: Chris Barrow on 07437 839048 / or Anita Denton on 07725 554802 /
