The challenges at Slough Borough Council are well documented, but there has been much less coverage of our recovery and improvement journey. There is a new corporate plan in place outlining Slough’s commitment to residents, including a determination to close the healthy life expectancy gap and improve the life chances of the borough’s children and young people. There is also a new top team in place – all focussed on turning the council around. We are now in the process of recruiting a new group of senior leaders to join us for what will undoubtedly be the biggest and the most rewarding challenge of their careers.
Reporting to the Executive Director and with a team of 190, our Director of Adult Social Care will be at the heart of our new offer to our communities. Given the financial pressures facing all local authorities, we need a Director who can bring innovation and new ways of working, with a forensic focus on best value. In addition, we also need to make sure that our front-line practice and processes are consistently strong and robust and centred around our service users, particularly in light of the need to prepare for the new CQC assurance framework.
During challenging times, authentic and inspirational leadership is required – but Slough is also a place where you can shape services and leave a lasting legacy. We are therefore seeking exceptional candidates with a track record of success in adult social care services, who are prepared to take calculated risks in order to make a real difference to the lives of Slough’s residents.
