South East London Tobacco Dependance Oversight & Delivery Group (TDOG)

Service Development & Delivery Lead: SEL Tobacco Treatment

“Swap to Stop” South East London

1-year fixed term contract (initially), secondments and part-time hours considered

The NHS, local authorities and wider partners are working closely together to deliver outstanding health and care services across our 6 boroughs through our Integrated Care System (ICS).

Central to our strategy is to work collaboratively to deliver world class preventative action, aiming to tackle unjust health inequalities and to keep people healthy throughout their lives. We are working as part of the London Tobacco Alliance (LTA) to address the health harms caused by smoking and to support the ambition of the LTA to achieve a smokefree London by 2030.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced public health professional with a high level of knowledge and understanding of tobacco dependency and of the services and support that can help smokers to quit.

We are working together across the 6 London boroughs in South East London to implement a high-profile programme of work to offer every resident who smokes the opportunity to quit with expert support. ‘Swap to Stop’ South East London will provide every smoker who takes up the offer with a free vaping kit, or other cessation aid if they prefer, combined with specialist tobacco treatment support.

Your role will be to turn our vision into a reality. You will work with the borough tobacco leads, and with existing tobacco treatment providers in community and NHS settings. You will ensure that the new offer is effectively promoted to smokers, through primary care and wider communication channels, driving a significant increase in tobacco treatment activity across our boroughs. New government funding to support tobacco treatment services plus a commitment from the local ICB to address the health harms and inequalities caused by nicotine addiction means that we have never been in a better position to accelerate our joint work on this critical public health issue.

You will be hosted within the Royal Borough of Greenwich Local Authority, but will work across the 6 boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark. You will be supported by a steering group involving representatives from across the 6 boroughs, the ICB and existing service providers.

If you are looking for an exciting new challenge which can make a real difference to the health and wellbeing of thousands of Londoners, we’d like to hear from you.
