Cumbria Adoption is  hosted by Cumberland Council, which  is an ambitious authority building on best practice and shaping and transforming services for the future. We want to create and sustain the best set of services for our communities to ensure all our residents are getting the help and support they need.

People are our strong point - in our communities and in our staff - and they are continuously the focus of our efforts.

About this opportunity

Are you an experienced and hard-working Social Worker looking to develop your career?

We have an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join us in the Adoption Service.

The Role

This is a permanent post, and we are looking for a skilled, experienced Social Worker  to join us and contribute to making a real difference in enabling children who need an adoptive family to have this opportunity.  You need to have at least 3 years experience post qualification, including some experience of adoption and permanence planning. Family Finders need to be proactive, imaginative and tenacious in working with colleagues locally and nationally to find the best adoptive families for our children.  The Family Finder also leads child appreciation days to ensure prospective adopters have a full understanding of the child’s life and experiences from the people who have known them best.

This is a Cumbria wide post, based in the Adoption Panels and Permanence Team.

There will be occasional weekend working and this is planned well in advance. You will be joining a friendly and hard-working team, liaising with other agencies, and linking in with social workers from other services.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a skilled communicator, who can build relationships, and has strong problem-solving skills. The successful candidate will be organised, have good assessment, analytical and written skills, and will be able to work effectively to ensure high-quality homes are secured

You will work closely with the Children's care planning teams and with the other Adoption teams to ensure children with a plan of adoption can live in their permanent family at the earliest opportunity.
