Get your career off to a great start with our exceptional apprenticeship scheme.
Kensington and Chelsea’s work is intrinsic to our local community’s wellbeing. As an ambitious council, we are passionate about delivering high-quality services that will enhance the lives of our residents and support local businesses. Join us as a Policy and Projects Apprentice within our Transportation and Highways Service, and you could play an integral role in helping us deliver on these ambitions – all while setting yourself up for a great career.
The Role:
In this 30-month scheme, you will have the opportunity to secure two qualifications and gain an in-depth knowledge of how we are improving road safety and making our streets better and greener. Providing project, policy and change management support to our inclusive and friendly team, you will get involved in programmes of work covering key areas such as traffic congestion, road collisions, parking challenges and new pedestrian crossings. Every day will therefore present you with the chance to form a solid foundation of knowledge, on which you can build a fascinating career.
With around 20 percent of your time spent on the learning side of this apprenticeship (in which you will attend workshops and webinars, and conduct online activities), you can expect to underpin your studies with hands-on projects. Nurturing your skills in a wide variety of small to medium-sized projects, you will take responsibility for researching, managing and monitoring the progress of workstreams, and you will have plenty of networking opportunities. Helping the team come up with innovative solutions to complex challenges, you will have the opportunity to shadow and be coached by colleagues, so every day will present you with a new learning curve. As such, you could get involved in tasks such as reporting on public consultations, monitoring expenditure in new schemes, analysing survey data, drawing up simple plans or drafting street notices about the improvements we’re proposing.
By the end of this interesting apprenticeship scheme, you will have secured your Level 4 Associate Project Manager apprenticeship qualification, and the IPMA Level D qualification or APM Project Management Qualification.

About You:
To make the most of this great opportunity, you will be ready to hit the ground running, and you will be happy to work flexibly across a variety of initiatives. You will therefore be comfortable extracting and analysing data, and you will have some knowledge of budgeting, financial management and cost control. With GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths and good IT skills (including the ability to use Microsoft Office and data analysis software), you will be a self-starter who is keen to learn. With the ability to meet deadlines and stay calm under pressure, you will be a team player who has a sharp eye for detail. Strong verbal and written communication skills are also important, and you will share our determination to create a greener, safer, and fairer transport network in one of London’s most iconic boroughs.
We look forward to helping you get your career off to a great start in our ambitious and high-performing team.
