Help us repair, renew and improve some of London’s most iconic structures and assets.

If you’re looking for the chance to contribute to a prestigious Local Authority that has the highest standards, then the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea can offer you a unique opportunity. We are committed to ensuring that our local community are kept safe every time they leave their homes. Whether they are drivers or cyclists, or simply taking a walk along the iconic Albert and Chelsea Bridges, we want them to feel confident that our highways, assets and structures are being precisely maintained. Which means there’s a great opportunity for you to join our friendly and ambitious team!

The Role:

Our team has over 10,000 gullies to maintain and inspect. We also take responsibility for iconic assets including sections of the Thames Embankment River Wall and other road and footway bridges, so our work is highly varied and deeply interesting. You could play a vital role in this work by helping us deliver our planned and reactive annual programme of work, including repairs, renewals and improvements. Taking responsibility for the project management of these initiatives, you will handle all financial and administrative tasks, seeing to it that the work is delivered to the highest standards, and that we are continuing to make best use of our resources.

Every day will provide you with plenty of variety as you will define project specifications, commission contractors and consultants to plan and carry out the work and maintain oversight of the entire lifecycle of work programmes. As you will be reviewing highway drainage design proposals, it goes without saying that we will expect you to apply your technical knowledge of materials and construction techniques to each challenge, and you will bring great commercial acumen to the role so that you can prepare cost estimates and bills of quantities and raise work orders.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

As you will be working with a broad spectrum of people including members of the public and Councillors, you will have exceptional verbal and written communication skills. With experience of managing highway schemes, you will have a relevant qualification such as a Degree or HNC in engineering or a technical discipline. With a great awareness of national technical standards, you will have a good understanding of our Streetscape Policy document, plus the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and the Specification for Highway Works (MCHW). With the ability to monitor contractors on site and maintain the relevant site records, you will be able to prioritise your own day-to-day workload, and you will be calm under pressure. You will also have great problem-solving skills and you will be IT literate.
