Do you want to join a strong performing fostering service, who are proud to support local vulnerable children to live with local foster carers?

Do you want to see children remaining close to their families, in their community and school wherever possible? Fostering North Yorkshire is a county service committed to developing excellent practice. Comprised of two large teams across North Yorkshire with dedicated roles, providing the supervision and support to our approved foster carers. Along with peers who are equally dedicated in the recruitment and assessment of North Yorkshire, foster carers. We have local teams in Scarborough, Selby, Knaresborough and Northallerton.

Are you a qualified Social Worker or awaiting Registration with Social Work England? Do you understand fostering and the impact of childhood adverse trauma? You will need to be committed to seeking excellent outcomes for children through building productive working relationships with a wide range of services to support our fostering families. This role will predominantly focus on the assessments of potential foster carers including unrelated foster carers and our family friends foster carers. You will need to be a confident practitioner and able to develop our foster carers in meeting children’s needs.

You will be joining a highly motivated team seeking to deliver high quality foster care in line with the National Fostering Regulations and National Minimum Standards for both family and friend foster carers and unrelated foster carers. You will need to be familiar with the assessment process for foster carers and that standards that need to be met. North Yorkshire's assessment tool is based on the secure base model and signs of safety.

As an employee of North Yorkshire Council, you cannot only expect to be part of a highly acclaimed organisation, but also receive the following:

·       Ongoing support from managers who will ensure you receive the relevant supervision and guidance throughout your role

·       Numerous professional development and learning opportunities enabling you to both develop and progress your career

·       Generous leave entitlement, allowing a healthy work/life balance

·       Relocation package available, dependent upon eligibility

·       Flexible working hours – We understand that everyone has different personal circumstances and priorities outside of work. We therefore try to accommodate these by offering flexible working hours to our employees

·       Manageable caseloads

The service very much promotes flexible working with the ability to work remotely from a variety of bases and from home. The post involves a degree of working outside normal office hours for home visits and group work.

The role is currently based at White Rose House Northallerton, however there is some flexibility to this base and although this post is full time, we may also some be able to consider part time also (as well as). By the nature of fostering assessments, there is an expectation that some travel to other parts of the county and further afield is needed. Please do phone to enquire.

Company

From the 1st April 2023 the eight district, borough and county councils in North Yorkshire merge to form the new Council, serving 611,000 residents.

The County of North Yorkshire is the largest County in England and Wales. Within the county are 598 square miles of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and 530 square miles of the North York Moors National Park. The county is included in the Yorkshire and Humberside Region.

Whilst the economy of the County has traditionally been dependent on agriculture and tourism, there is a fast growing high technology base and this, together with other forms of light manufacturing industry, is of increasing importance. The Council has an active policy of economic development and the predominantly rural character of the County is highly attractive to high technology businesses as well as the traditional industries of farming, food production and tourism. The County contains several centres of great historic interest, market towns that invite light industrial development, the modern coalfield area in the South, scenic, lightly populated upland areas and the extensive lowland area in the Vale of York.

With a brand new Council, newly elected members, the prospect of a new combined authority as well as its’ first ever mayor, North Yorkshire is on the cusp of a new dawn. The county already has firm foundations - a strong culture and identity which is rich in heritage; thriving communities where the people and places are resilient and innovative; beautiful scenery with stunning landscapes, quaint villages, market and coastal towns; plus the vibrant cities of York and Leeds just on the doorstep.  This amazing county combines the best of the traditional and the modern, and is widely regarded as one of the best places to live in the UK.  North Yorkshire is a great place to live, work and do business.
