Join Sheffield City Council as a Business Support Officer within Children’s Services

Sheffield’s Children and Families Business Support Service is looking for bright and motivated individuals to join us as a Business Support Officer and help make a meaningful impact to the lives of children and young people in Sheffield.

We have teams across Sheffield supporting different functions within Children and Families. If based within this team, the vacancies that we have are in North and South Fieldwork Business Support. We offer an established career progression route and the experience needed to move into other areas within Sheffield City Council, such as Project Support, HR and Finance.

The difference you’ll make as a Business Support Officer:

You will be working with other Business Support colleagues to provide a proactive customer-focused business support service to teams across Children and Families, making a meaningful impact for vulnerable young people in Sheffield.

What your working day will look like:

The role is diverse, and you work closely with the wider service in a fast-paced environment as often the completion of tasks is very quick and requires strict deadlines.

You will carry out a variety of tasks, such as:

  • Monitor Liquidlogic desktop and complete tasks based on urgency
  • Provide a reception service (telephone and face-to-face in Stadia) and take messages
  • Process travel, accommodation and taxi bookings

Finance

  • Archiving – requesting files from RMS and archiving files when required
  • Converting and password protecting documents

Meeting Support

  • Strategy meetings
  • PLO meetings
  • Life Appreciation days

About you:

You will have:

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs (including both English and Maths) or equivalent qualification and have proven experience in a similar administrative role.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills and be motivated to work under pressure and in a confidential manner.
  • Experience of using IT systems such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint.
  • Experience of working in a busy office environment with a good understanding of office processes and procedures, strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Business Support Officers are required to be flexible in terms of area of work and location and need to be able to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.

We are looking for committed, passionate, enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals who are confident in verbal and written communication. The service handles private and confidential information, so discretion and confidentiality are essential. There may be times in this role when you hear distressing and sensitive information.

Working for Sheffield City Council, you’ll enjoy:

  • The opportunity for career growth and development.
  • A collaborative and supportive work culture which encourages inclusion and diversity.
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • A range of health and wellbeing support.

If you are a motivated and detail-oriented individual looking for a rewarding and challenging role, this is the perfect opportunity for you. Join our team and contribute to our continued success.
